August long weekend at Itirlak Cabin

Saturday morning we took the 3 hour ride to our cabin at Itirlak Lake. We had a good weekend and the weather finally cooperated with just enough wind to keep the bugs away. We saw a small herd of about 30 caribou on Saturday but they were all females with calfs so we did not hunt them.

Nunavut Day - Long Wekkend

So far this summer this has been the only weekend where it didn't rain. The temperature actually reached a balmy 23 C but the mosquitos were out in full force. Overall we had a great weekend, I saw a seal swimming in the bay beside the cabin and saw my first caribou of the year. It was a decent size bull with a decent rack, I tried getting it but it ran into a swampy area and i didn't want any part of that mosquito infested water so I let him go.

End of August Already

Well summer sure did fly by pretty fast!!!!!

End of August means berry picking around here so of we went a picking...   them not me, I just went along for the ride and some fresh air. Actually I went along hoping that there would be a big fat buck I could shoot. I did see a nice buck with my binoculars but it was to far across the tundra so I decided that I would go look for it the following day. Someone got to it before I did so no luck yet on a big buck.

Here are some picture from our berry picking adventure.
